EDIT: There is some confusion in the answers that follow (or perhaps in the question) between mp3 and mp4 as formats (which is what they are - or to be more specific they are codecs) and the hardware required to play those formats. An mp4-player will, naturally, be able to handle both audio and video, so an mp4-PLAYER will be 'better' than an mp3-PLAYER in that respect, but will also be, naturally, more expensive as it will require some kind of a video display.

Mp3 will only handle music, Mp4 will handle music and video
it depends what you want to use, audio-mp3 audio and video mp4, but wait for a few months they will come down in price and the they will have time to iron out any technical difficulties, but i would say mp4 is better
MP4 allows you to download and watch videos as well as music. You can also download and view pictures too! I had one - but I don't think much of them!! So ended up selling it!! They are quite bulky and furthermore are not practically ideal. I mean you can't watch movies/tv programmes etc whilst on the bus cos someone will probably end up mugging you for it. If you are in a car, you're better off with an in-car DVD player: better picture and sound quality. And if your at home or at the office you don't need to watch movies/programmes on an MP4 player since you have TV, DVD, Internet! I advise you to stick with an MP3 player! More discreet and obviously music is more easily portable in that you can listen to music and do something else at the same time whereas with watching movies/programmes you can't do that and do something else at the same time!!
