When I return to my home country, do I have to pay taxes on a laptop if it's more than 6 months old?

I'm going back home to South Africa from the UK.

Answers:
No , just make sure you bring it in a bag and not a box, i done that and no taxes and mine was 6 weeks old, Pretoria, South Africa.!
you will have to pay 500 rand.
As long as it is in a carry case and has been used, noone is going to ask when and where you bought it, so avoiding tax, people travel with laptops all the time. Just dont take it home in the box.
if it appears you bought it there still in box etc yes you would however if it seems it was bought in this country no. A common trick is to buy an engagement ring in america good exchange rate and cheaper there wear it coming back so it looks like its yours and you dont pay vat on it. posh spice once tried it but got caught. good idea if you can get away with it.
as long as its not tobacco or booze and you can prove you were in uk for 6 months or longer as a student or working then you don't have to pay import tax as long as its a personal item, which it is
Yes, Most Probably you have topay the taxes.
