Can anyone recommend a good restaurant in Galway City?
My wife and I are going there for our first wedding anniversary and we'd like a nice meal on a Saturday night.

i dont know any place, but congratulations on your 1st anni
What sort of food and atmosphere do you like? McDonagh's on Quay Street has really good fish but is not "posh" if that's what you're after (NB one side is fish'n'chips, the other a proper seafood restaurant). While Moran's of the Weir (in Kilcolgan, about 10 miles outside the City) serves the best oysters.
My in-laws love Cactus Jack's (texmex), but it's more about plenty of food in a friendly atmosphere than fine dining.
Also just outside the city - 5 miles or so - Is The Moorings in Oranmore, which is good for local produce: if you're not a restaurant buff, it'll be good - a real connoisseur might not be impressed. Better food - but again 6 miles or so from the City - is the Old School House in Clarinbridge, where I once had an excellent birthday meal with my wife.
I'm afraid it's a few years since I lived there, so these recommendations are probably a bit out of date - and we never went in for fine dining much. But I'd say the Georgina Campbell Ireland Guide site (below) was your best starting point.
