How to become a food critic in the uk?
my friend and i often go out to lunch when our children are at school, and we thought why not see if we could do thid for a living

just start writing critiques for each restarant that you go to and start a blog with them, then, once you think you are pretty good, start submitting them to the local papers and maybe some websites..
go somewhere and do a critic for the local paper even if they have not asked
see what happens

Food critics tend to come from a Restuarant management or a chef background, just as a hotel critic comes from a hotel background.
Having gone to a restaurant, write a review on it, and submit it to some of your nearby papers. They will call you if interested.
BTW, Food critics don't get free lunches at restaurants, they pay the meal and then get re-imburst by the person who publishes the article.
