Check out one of the following sites which I find helpful:
http://www.london-eating.co.uk
http://www.toptable.co.uk/
http://www.squaremeal.co.uk
mac donalds
check out http://www.menuserve.com/

they have thousands of listings by location and by cuisine, they also have driving directions, details and coupons for many restaurants.

better than most directories that just give you address and a number, menuserve has the COMPLETE menu to every restaurant listed!
try looking at

you've got to try hardrock in leicester square, they serve fabulous food! been there 4 days ago, they have a promo, 3-course meal for just £12.99
Brick Lane if you like curry - don't be fooled by the enticing waiters with their offers of free drinks (99% water, 1% beer usually). Look for the people inside- if it is full of people and they look happy, you'll get a meal worth eating.
