Best pub in central London for a pint after work tonight?

Answers:
Easily your best bet is to get the train from Kings Cross, change at Doncaster for Sheffield. Come out of Sheffield station and catch the no 53 bus. Get off at Chesterfield Road/ Heeley Bottom and walk up the road on the left before the rail bridge. You will find the Sheaf View on the left. Will take you about 3 hours to get there, but if the alternative is a London pub, it's worth it.
Depends what time you finish work, comptons in soho is good til 11pm then try "Leather Daddy at XXL Southwalk Arches
Just off Piccadilly circus is the Cheers bar, what better place to go to! Its the place where every one knows your name ;-)
WAXY O'CONNORS JUST ROUND THE CORNER FROM TROCEDARO IN PICCIDILLY CIRCUS GREAT DRINK AND BRILLIANT ATMOSPHERE AND ITS HUGE!! WITH LOTS OF SECTIONS TO HAVE A QUIET DRINK OR A LOUD ONE DEPENDING ON YOUR MOOD.
If you want a proper "pub" type pub then ignore these jokers (except the yorkshireman of course) and go to the Red Lion in Westminster. It's a lovely old-fashioned pub and it's so close to the house of commons that they ring the division bell, which is a nice bit o history. All these cheers bars and plastic-paddy fake irish nonsense will just give you indigestion and make you cynical.

If you're out west, try the Windsor Castle in Notting Hill - it's a very atmospheric old pub with three-foot high doors between the sections. Only downside is that the staff haven't been that well trained and if the manager's not behind the bar service can be v e r y slow.

The Churchill Arms, also in Notting Hill, is a wonderful pub - it's won the evening standard pub of the year awards several times and it has a great, and very good value, Thai restaurant in the back. The manager, Gerry, ensures that the service is second to none and the prices are fair.
