When I was in Birmingham last year with my wife for our anniversary we had a very nice meal at Hotel Du Vin Bistro. It was pricey but the food was great, and they had a good selection of wine. The staff were very friendly too.
you cant look in the phone book, or have friends there that can help you out on this one?
Hmm, they are very popular places to go out, so finding somewhere exclusive is tricky. Maybe if you look on the outskirts - living in Dudley, we usually go out further into the countryside for a lovely pub meal - which is romantic and special?
Only one place worth thinking about and that's the Bank restaurant just off the canal, the food and surroundings are fantastic!
COOK BY YOUR OWN HANDS. THIS THE VERY GOOD GIFT FOR YOUR HUBBY'S B/DAY
le petit blanc in birmingham is better than Bank - try this site for reviews etc

Alas the wonderful La Toque D'or in the jewellery quarter shut its doors in March, but it still leaves you with some excellent options.

The first obvious two options would be jessica's or simpsons both in edgbaston, both Brum's only Michellined starred restaurants. For me Simpson's slightly out edges Jessica's, but other people disagree.

For a less obvious choice how about hotel de vin or malmaison in town? terrific exclussive private restaurants attached to nice small hotels if you are tempted to stay on.

Bank is okay to take your mum to lunch, but it is a bit souless and corporate for a romantic tete a tete.

Whatever you do, stay away from Berlioz at the burlington hotel, what a dump. Looks very pretty but staff don't even know what they are serving, one dish came out with potatoes that they forgot to cook. firebomb the place.
If you like curry:
Eastern Curry Inn, Sheldon

If you don't:
Malt Shovel, Hampton-in-Arden
i went for a great meal at La Reserve in Sutton Coldfield it's just been refurbished nice meal candle lit meal view of the lake what else can you ask for.
Why in God's name would you want to go to Birmingham let alone Solihull?? and you want to eat out there as well!! Hope you are going out for lunch, you'll be taking a risk if going out after dark!
San Carlo resturant in Birmingham City Centre is really nice and romantic. It is an upmarket Italian resturant with a good variety of meals and wines. Located on Temple Street, one of the side road by Birmingham Catherdral.
If u like curries.then u definately go to 'Blue Mango' in Birmingham, Broadstreet or 'Blue Mango' in Solihull. Its a great restaurant (Buffet).
I really like the Mail Box restaurants for nights out. Recently went to the oriental on the lower level by the canal and the food was really good.
