How many schools are there in Britain?

Answers:
Let's guess, the population is about 60 million, fairly evenly distributed from ages 0 to 70, and say everybody has 12 years of school, so there would be 10 million schoolchildren in Britain.

An average primary school has two classes of 30 in each of 7 years, make that 400 per school. An average secondary school has four classes of 28 in each of 5 years, and a smaller sixth year, make that 600 per school. Allowing for some combined primary+secondary schools, I say 18 thousand schools should be about right, give or take 4 thousand.
