What age does the national minimum wage start at?

my son is 18 and to settle argument hubby said he should be on the minimum wage, i said you dont get it till your 21 who's right?

I actually think the minimum age is 16. This might be something that changes by state though.
In the UK there is a minimum wage for each age bracket. 21 is the adult though, so youre right in a way.
