Kira was galan's Girlfriend, not wife.
Galen and Kira become engaged. For undisclosed reasons, they do not get married. (Galen and Kira infer that they broke off the engagement in recent years.)

She was called Zira (played by Kim Hunter). Galen -note the spelling- was Roddy McDowell in the TV series, though he was called Cornelius in the original films.
