What is a american
First of all i want to make it clear I AM NOT ANTI AMERICAN !
am i wright to say a true american is a red indian??
Answers:
I completely agree. This land was overrun by Europeans and now middle easterns and mexicans, and the Native American was pushed to the side.
Thank goodness I can say I am part Native American.
Native Americans (indians) were the first Americans until we nasty white people took over their land.
In modern terms, this message is from a true American. I live in Oklahoma.
no, a red indian is an injun of course. A true American is someone who is a legal citizen of the U.S.
A true American is a shallow minded person who is fat, wears disgusting clothes and has a lot of money!
A true American is any person who values democracy, practices tolerance, welcomes the stranger, keeps church and state apart, and always allows everyone a fair chance to speak and to live.
yes
Even the Native Americans came from another land before they were here. All Americans are truly immigrants. I would say anyone who lives here and loves America (even if they don't support the current government) is a "true" American.
Oh, Isis , if only what you wrote was universally true of America.

We are great, on this question
Native Americans were the first people to LIVE here
A true American is someone who has pride. Who likes to live here, and even if they aren't in the Army- they respect the people that are. A True American recognizes that every political leader has bad qualities. But also know, that if you look closer than a TIME's article you would know they have good qualities too.
In conclusion- there are very few True Americans left ._.

michael learn to spell please..this is the 2nd question in 5 minutes i have seen from you and you haven't learnt to spell right correctly!
An American is someone who is here in the USA legally (any nationality) that believe in freedom and prosperity. An American is a person who believes that all people and animals are a precious commodity to the world. Americans are people who feel the pain of others and console those including other countries that are in distress. You are an American when you accept that there are others with different beliefs and religions that live among us and we accept those people with open arms. You are an american when you speak against the Higher ups and do not get Killed for it. You are an American when you realize that your government made mistakes but understand that they are human and are looking out for your best interests. I am an American and I am proud of America and what we stand for. God Bless America and all other countries too.
a yank who does'nt tell lies
Yes. But keep in mind that you'd have to include the indigenous peoples of South and Central America--sometimes, but not always, referred to as Indians--in that category. "America" is a lot bigger place than we "Americans" often acknowledge. And by the way, you should award the 10 points to Isis--smart girl.
Well true Americans are probably the immigrants who traveled here and became citizens. Indians would not call themselves "Americans" because America was named after Amerigo Vespucci. , and the Indians never called it "America" before.
I still do believe though that Indians have a full right to this land and honestly feel bad for them because money and land driven people killed a large number of them just so they could take their land.
Yes. All the rest are kin of invaders
this probably isn't the best place to ask this but oh well.
Native Americans were the first Americans, but then the white people came and decided to screw them over and then claim the land themselves as if it was theirs.now-a-days a "true" American is a citizen of the USA.but that just means they live here, not that they are a good example of what a real American is.i think that a real American is someone who is patriotic, loves their country, wants what is best for their country, realizes that yes we have problems, but wants to fix them and loves it here in spite of those problems, appreciates our freedom and the men and women that give up everything they have in the pursuit of it, and would be able to sing the national anthem at any given moment and do it with pride.sadly that is becoming a rare thing
America also includes South America and so I'd say the native Indians of North America and the native Indians of South America too. But anyone born on that continent or has become a citizen of a country within that country could also be classed as American. I don't think you have to eat junk food and drink caffeinated drinks to be classed as American.
Take a look on the Friends page of my website and you will find a picture of "Warrior Woman" - so named by her native American mother - I associate her with being a true American. I don't think she drinks Coke - but I'll ask!
Mmm, well Red Indian is a mis nomer as well, as you know by now Native American, as others point out America was named after the map maker chappie, so it can only presumably refer to settlers after that, John Wayne had famously said that the lad held by the Native Americans was so big that the white guys had every right to take it, err, steady there Marilyn! The thing is before or during the times of NA's the lands were also to a smaller extent colonised by the Vikings, and there is some evidence to prove so, Leif Erikson and so on. Prior to that probably when the land masses were joined, the Asiatic peoples would have crossed to the North Americas, hence the similarity in facial characteristics between NA's and Mongolians, Siberians etc. So is there such a thing as a true American? Depends how you look at it.
Its a person who lives it the boundaries of the U.S.A.,who goes by the thing's that made America what is was intended to be.like( IN GOD WE TRUST)or(GOD BLESS AMERICA)and( PRAYING AT SCHOOL)also for those of you who come here please learn to speak English, and quit trying to change the way we are when you get here, go back to your own country, and see if your people are changing for anyone else. And you can ask them (WHAT IS A TRUE.WERE EVER THE HECK YOUR FROM).A see what kind of answer you get.
I don't think red indians are true americans. But then again, I don't know who they are and what they look like. But I think the first people who discovered America are true Americans.
Obese, loud mouthed dumb-a$s rednecks and live in the mid-west.
All the rest must be called something else?
In a philosophical sense, I would say, everybody, who truly loves America, but not only that. True American is a special state of mind, speaking both psychologically and politically. One has to have deep understanding of what is happening around in order to accept/decline it.
But, personally, I would prefer friendly environment, even if it isn't necessarily an American one. I think, this is the actual reason of coming here: we must have some friendly space to live. Of course, this doesn't mean we have to offend anybody at all. But we all need good friends, no matter how good or bad we are ourselves. That's why sometimes we look for them very far from our place of birth or living.
And, finally, we must understand the value of the words, that come out of our mouths. Every word has its own value, and when they're put together, it can be a very big value overall. So, let's think, what can unite us, not divide. And this very way we - all together - can answer all important questions, that history has to offer each and every one of us.
OK, everyone, here's my take on this discussion. First, I should point out that I am 1/16 Cherokee. Now, this land was not called America until the Europeans arrived. Therefore, in reality, the term "Native American" makes no sense.
Ex. If China were to invade Japan, and call it part of China, The Japanese people would not be called "Native Chinese." They're still Japanese. So, the proper term would be "Native Cherokee," or "Native Sioux" and so forth.
It seems to me that a true American would be someone who was born in the Western Hemisphere after these two continents came to be known as North America and South America. The point is, an American is not necessarily someone who is from the United States of America.
I, personally have Cherokee lineage, as well as Irish heritage which can be traced back to the 14th Century. Since I'm not 100% Cherokee, and was not born on native Cherokee land, I am not "Native Cherokee." I was born in California, therefore, I am a true American. Keep in mind, if I were born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, I would also, technically be a true American, by the definition of America as a whole of two parts (North and South America).
A true American is anyone who lives in America. But America is not the same as the USA. North America and South America combine to make up America. So a true American takes in, among others, Brazilians, Peruvians, Guatamalans, Chileans, Mexicans, US citizens and Canadians.
What would make a red Indian, or aboriginal, more American than any other Americans?
They, too, immigrated to the American continent from somewhere else.
