What's the meaning of "if wet holds off" ?

CONTEXT: one guy asks a stagecoach rider:
What time we get there?

AND HE ANSWERS: Midnight if this wet holds off.

It sounds like "he" was referring to a pending rainstorm.
I agree with the first answerer. I have never heard this expression before, but it sounds like he's saying the equivalent of "if it doesn't rain".
