What is the best way of learning new words from a foreign language ..?

Answers:
The best way is to talk with someone who speaks that language.

Other things you can do:

Watch a language DVD/video. The ones we like are the Muzzy series and also the Standard Deviants series. For French, there is a great series of videos called "French in Action."

You can also try listening to the Berlitz audio tapes. We have used those in both German and Italian. You can listen while driving/riding in the car or while relaxing or whatever. they really are great for learning pronunciation.

You can also enroll in a language class but that would be the most expensive.

If you are on a low budget, try getting audio and video tapes at your local library.

Or ask friends or family who have taken a language class. Most likely they have materials collecting dust that they will give you.
By memorizing them.
conversate with someone who speaks that language. that's how i learbed spanish, german, and italian.
we're going to france. we rented some audio vocabulary tapes in french (from the library) to help us..
taking a cd and learning off of that
Listen to cassette tapes while you sleep. Some people say that sleep memorization is easy and affective.
Go there, or get a friend who speaks the language, and only speak that language with them. If that doesn't work, take a college class or play games like the ones at warrenhardy.com or http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish..
there's a website, just type in Japan.com
bring a dictionary..
speak to someone who knows that language and is foreign. also try taking a foreign class.
Get a tutor and study alot.
By talking to someone who speaks the language.
You will get the true version of it that way. (Incl. slang)
2nd best is a computer program.it will navigate you through the levels and you can get examples of pronunciation and use.
By just getting you self involve with this new lenguage like TV and radio.

The best way is to be surrounded by people who speak the language you want to learn, i.e. go to the country. If not practical I found "Rosetta stone" language cds helpful, though im sure there are many other brands as good. Rosetta stone works by a combination of sounds and pictures, similar to the way a child learns.
TV and movies in foreign languages. listening to the accents of foreigners, books and music, and finally classes.
Is your question about learning words, or a whole language?

Nouns are probably the easiest to learn. That's where I started when I went to Germany. You learn best by association. Learning that Cat == Katze or Hospital == Krankenhaus is very useful. Nouns tend to stick in your mind because you can tie them to something tangible.

Another trick is to buy and read children's books in the language you are trying to learn. These books give the basics of the language you are learning. They teach you basic syntax and spoken language structure. Use a good pronunciation guide to help you learn the alphabet.

I always find it helpful to learn to count in the language I'm learning.

Learn the idiosyncrasies of the language you are learning. For a while, I thought the word Einbahnstraße was pronounced "ein bon strabe". I didn't realize that the ß (s-z ligature) was 2 esses. So I started pronouncing it correctly (ein bon strass uh)

And lastly, buy a good translational dictionary. Hope this is helpful.
get a text book for the beginning stage of learning that language. using a dictionary I find does not help. you need a book that will break down the language for you. Also go to the library to save the money.
immerse yourself in the culture of the language that you want to learn. watch their movies and tv shows (with english subtitles of course). this way, you'll know how the tone of that language sounds like. take down words that are repeated the most. another way is listening to songs. even if you don't understand it right away, you'll be able to memorize it, just like you do with english songs. it will be slow, but in time, you'll be able to understand the whole song.
