University-London Met.?

me and my friend study BA Business Studies @ London Metropolitan Uni, and we have heard from people in our course and other people that employers look at the uni you went 2, so for example, if there are 2 people applying for the same job with same qualification and 1 of them went to London Metroplitan then the employer is more likely to choose the other person, it that true?

Answers:
It has a reputation of being one of the 'new universities' that hasn't really made the grade. Someone with a BA from a 'real' university is more likely to get chosen. Hard truth . sorry!

You can always transfer, you know? It's quite easy to do that. Find the uni you like and approach them.
There is quite a lot of snobbery with regards to which University that you went to, however I do believe that London Met's ranking with regards to Business studies is quite ok compared to the general ranking of the university. Maybe this is worth mentioning on your CV. The main thing is to get as much work experience that you can possibly manage since this is what will impress employers!
its not because its a bad university.its a new university and it will take time for it to catch up on old favourites such as kings etc
as far as anything you should concentrate on getting your grades not worrying about this.my friend went to south bank [not great] and got a good degree its all about experience as well as grades.
london met also has probably a million more students than any other university so comparing would be unfair.for eg..if kings has 2000 students the percentage that get 2.1 would be 50percent that means 1000 students got 2.1.
in londonmet.theres say 15000 students but percentage rate of 2.1.is 10percent. that means 1500 students for 2.1.so it doenst really matter.as the propoprtions are alot biger than any other single universty.
just get your grades dont worry about university it simply isnt the big case we think it is
im going to [a uni that is supposed to be oh so great] well it doens treally matter..if ive got a crap degree and no work exp no1 will emply me.so dont wry
Yea i'm at Westminster and someone was saying that to me also..

But my lecturers always say to us that employers don't just look at qualifications and institiutes as all applying are probably at degree level - its about what else you personally can bring to the position.

Doing voluntary work..using your time effectivley to boost your CV will definitley add to your application..as well as your personality - dont forget that..when you go for a job they want to meet YOU so you have to sell yourself

Its almost like a race and Gender issue with regards to recruitment but we have overcome bigger things

Dont downsize your degree..you put in alot of work so have the confidence to believe that if you go for something that you deserve it - because you do!
