Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist, but a person who drives a race car not called a racist?

Answers:
and why are quizzes quizzical but tests arent testicle?
By your definition it would have to be carist.
A person who plays a piano called also be called a musician, but he's specifically known as a pianist to identify which instrument.

However a race car driver, is a driver but you couldn't specifically say racist as the word is already used for something else.

However you might say Formula 1, or TOCA or stock to identify his speciality.
a pedant writes.

Racist is an unfortunate American construction. It comes from the equally obnoxious word racism. The English words are racialist and racialism.

The person who drives a motor car is a motorist. The person who races in a motor car is a motor-racer.
say it out loud.. then you realise why it isn't that! The english language is so complicated!
A pianist can be called a Musician.

And if a person drove a racer car, he/she could be called a racer. or a Driver.

derrrr! Na jokes, it got me for a couple of seconds. Clever you. No seriously. !
becuase if someone asked you what you done for a living and you said you were a racist you would probably wake six months later in the hospital
Don't know, but it opens up an interesting question on why virtually all race car drivers in WRC/F1/NASCAR are white
