What are the main differences between criminal and civil law?

Answers:
Criminal law (also known as penal law) is the body of statutory and common law that deals with crime and the legal punishment of criminal offenses. There are four theories of criminal justice: punishment, deterrence, incapacitation, and rehabilitation. It is believed that imposing sanctions for the crime, society can achieve justice and a peaceable social order.

This differs from civil law in that civil actions are disputes between two parties that are not of significant public concern.
Criminal law is dealing with offenses that are against the law. Civil law is more of suing someone for car accidents, failure to provide services, breech of contract, .
Criminal Law deals with laws against the State.i.e., the People in General. Civil Law generally deals with grievances between private parties. Also, the consequences are different. Civil law usually results in one party having to pay the other party for a wrong they committed against that other party. A criminal case results in jail time or fines payable to the State for violating some criminal statute.
