Does anyone know anything about evacuation during the world war 2?
Answers:
The British Govt decided to move children from big cities to the countryside. This was done quite early on in the war, during the 'Phony War' period. Some children had a terrible time, treated like servants etc. Others had the time of their lives, many from very deprived areas, such as the East End of London, had decent food for the first time. It depends which evacuation you are talking about. In Britain they sent the children away so they would be safe from air raids. They shipped them to the USA, but one of the ships sank, some of the kids on that ship survived, but a lot did not. There is actually a new book out about that ship sinking, but I can't remember what it's called.
Or you could mean the American Government "evacuating" the Japanese citizens. They were rounded up and bussed to camps. The government was afraid they were spying for the Japanese government and decided they needed to be separated from the rest of the American citizens. Despite this a lot of Japanese men went on to serve in the American military during WWII, however they had to serve on the European front not the Asian front. A good fictional book and movie that deals with this is SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS.
