What is the flavouring used in both Pink Wafer biscuits and the pink icing on Iced Buns?

I have always thought it to be Kirst or kirsk. I cannot find any in shops. the alcoholic drink Kirsk is nothing like the flavouring I want

Answers:
I don't think it has a flavour, it's just food colouring. Cochineal used to be made from beetles blood i think.

And do you mean Kirsch?

And we're trying to tell you it does not have a flavour, only a colour.
It will be cochineal (red food colouring which comes from an insect).
maybe strawberry
.
Most likely Cochineal .

Sorry if spelt wrong :-( ..
Certainly won't be cochineal as that is a banned substance now, and has been for some years.
you want strawberry flavouring,not colouring,but flavouring,there is a difference.
maybe vanilla?
I wasn't aware that they put a flavouring into the icing only a colouring. They have never had a particular flavour when I've eaten them.
Dunno - but I hope someone comes up with the right answer - I love these wafers!
