Having a housewarming party in a couple of weeks, any ideas for party food and nibbles?
Answers:
There are 3 things to consider: your space, your theme, and the time of day. You would not serve the same type of food at 10:00 A.M. as you would for 6:00 P.M.
You also need to have consideration for your guests. For example let's say your party is at 6:00 P.M. People are going to expect a meal because of the time. So you will need to have the equivalent of a meal to serve at your party. If your party is at 3:00 P.M. you would would need more small nibbles then big hearty dishes.
10:00A.M. TO 11:00 A.M.- light nibbles
Donuts, Muffins, Fresh Fruit Trays, Small Sausages on Skewers
For drinks I would serve an assortment of Juices, Coffee, Milk
And before you knock the idea of a morning party.. You will lower your food and drink bill.. Plus the benifits are you can buy all these items ready to go.. You might have to warm to sausages up but other them that you can set all these up on a table buffet style and let guests serve themselves and mingle.
11:00 A.M. TO 1:00 P.M.
This time frame would need a meal because mainly people will plan on eating at your party for this time frame. However people will eat less at a lunch party then they would a dinner party.
I would recommend sandwhiches, chips, fruit and veggie trays, and a cookie tray for dessert if you plan on serving buffett style. If you have the space for a sit down dinner.. Ham, Mashed/Baked Potatoes, veggies, and a cake would be fine. For drinks I would offer Tea, Soda, Coffee (for the cake/cookies), Beer if you are so inclined. Lunch would not be a "fancy" affair I would serve good home-style food.
2:00 P.M. TO 5:00 P.M.
This would be another time slot that nibbles would be more than fine. I would however serve "heartier" nibbles. Such as meatballs, ham/cheese/olive skewers, chips w/ an assortment of dips. One such dip that is easy.. In a 2 quart pot put a package of velveeta cheese and a container of chili (it is your preference on with beans or w/out).melt on medium and then serve in a large microwave safe bowl. That way when if it gets cold you can pop it into the mircowave for a few seconds. I would also have fruit and veggie trays with dip and a tray of cookies for dessert. For drinks it could be tea, soda, coffee, and again beer if you are so inclined..
6:00 P.M. TO 9:00 P.M.
This is a time slot that really calls for a full meal and that really depends on your budget. Bar-b-ques are a nice cheaper way of feeding a large amount of people. Grilled Chicken Breasts are another good alternative. You can purchase those in bulk and they take little time to prepare. For nibbles I would go with the tried and true fruit and veggie trays. You could also pass around a "sweet" tray with little petit fours, cupcake, cookies. Nuts are another good nibble. Drinks would be tea, sodas, coffee, beer and liquor if you are so inclined. Unless you have a large budget, and since you just bought a house I am assuming not, I recommend against a full bar. I would chose 2-3 different alcoholic drinks that can be mixed in large quantities unless you can afford to hire a bartender for the night. Or even better a friend who has a knack for mixing drinks who will run the "bar" for you.
You can have a lovely party without spending a fortune. Most large discount stores sell prepared veggie and fruit trays. You can even find delicious pasta salads in large quantities. And another tip. If the store you go to does not have a tray out in the shelves ask if they can prepare one for you. Most stores are more than happy to make custom trays for you for a slight fee.

it's a little home made recipe called Timmy Corn.I believe it's popcorn with melted almond bark, creamy peanutbutter and peanuts all mixed together then you let it set on wax paper and after the chocolate hardens then you break it up into grabbable chunks and put it in a bowl.mmm yummy
the only thing to drink darling is Cava, cava, cava - and plenty of it
M and S do great nibbles
I'd do a big pot of chillie and then some usual party treats like a few sarnies, sausage rolls, cakes and profiteroles etc.maybe a couple of pizzas, some garlic bread and some baked potatoes, if you run out of everything else you've always got some chilli left then!
Mixed nuts is always good as nibbles it's not too fatty and healthy, some bread sticks with some dips like sour cream and chives, hot salsa or humus depends on what you like and some pretzels. For party food I would suggest chicken wings, sausage rolls, pork sausages wrapped in bacon and some vegetarian finger food for the odd vegetarian here and there.
I held my house warming 2 weeks ago. We hired a Marquee for the garden (can't trust the weather) and had a BBQ, homemade kebabs, burgers, ribs, chicken, steak, prawns, and of course the crisps and salad. With some chocies for pud.
In doors i recommend, nibbles - crisps and cheeses, crackers, and maybe pizza, or a big lasagna with plenty of garlic bread and salad. Depends if your in doors out out, and how many people you have coming.
Congratulations on the house - oh and the cleaning up the next morning..
congratulations on your new home.you could have velvette cheese dip/hamburger meat scramble up and put in it. with your chips.nuts,mints.you could fix some sandwich's and cut then like club sandwiches.you can get you some different fruit and some dip for your fruit that is some ideals.good luck, and god bless your new home.I pray many wonderful things for you and your family.be blessed.
I love Costco, especially if you are pressed for time. Sometimes they have pre-made gourmet items that you just need to warm and serve, and it looked like you spent the whole day slaving over it or had hired somebody to cater for you.
Sample Menu:
Artichoke-Spinach Dip served with crackers or tortilla on the side
Mini pizzas (Buy your favorite topping pizza. I love California pizza Kitchen, then cut in smaller triangles or squares)
Grilled Shrimp with bacon on skewers
Mini sausages
Fresh fruit and vegetable tray
Cupcakes and ice cream
Drinks:
For the adults, an affordable wine (red or white)
Beer, soda etc.
Fruit punch complete with sorbet (add vodka for the adults)
try any of these in this site:

humus with carrots and cellery to dip.
crisps
I had a house warming just a few weeks back, and I was wondering what to make as the crowd included some vegetarians as well. I ended up making a mixture of snacks and salads with some chicken skewers and a courgette & gruyere loaf as well.. all went very well.
Aubergine & Coriander Dip
Hummus
Mozarella (marinated) & Cherry Tomato skewers
Chicken Skewers with spicy dip
Courgette Loaf
Watermelon, Tomato and Feta Salad
Crudite Vegetables (carrots, cucumber, peppers, radishes)
Baby Baked Potatoes
Guacamole & Salsa
Crisps, Olives and Nuts
If you'd like the recipes, just let me know and I'll post them here for you.
Anything that can be made ahead and served in warmers or crockpots.
Nothing that will stain your carpet if it is dropped by careless guests.
If you have a patio or deck I suggest serving the food outside.
How about a dessert buffet. Ask everyone to bring their favorite dessert!
Hot Chicken Wings (FingerFood)
