Whats your favourite sweet from the penny tray. 1970"s style. over 35"s only please.?
Answers:
Flying saucers used to be my favourites also pink and white mice. Cola cubes another one you could eat in class. The most hated sweet of that era was Parma Violets..yuck!
Talking of old sweets and things.who remembers JUBBLIES?
Black jacks
Don't know the name but the little malted milk balls in the celophane tube.
a stick of licorice root, the stringy stuff.
Cola bottles, shrimps, white chocolate mice, jelly dummies to name a few. I used to work in the local corner shop when I was still at school - this was the early 80s and used to eat more than I sold - lol. I used to love 10p mixtures but hated flumps. I also loved the liquorice pipes with pink hundreds and thousands pretending it was lit but they were more than a penny and whoppers. Oh the good ole days haha.
Black jacks and fruit salads
Fruit Salad, or the stuff that you could get for half a penny! Twice as much then!! Loved the chocolate penny shaped sweets that had 'hundreds and thousands' on one side. Tried them recently - ugh!!
I loved the red licorice string. Was one of my favorites.
Liquorice Spirals with the Pink or Blue bobbly sweet in the middle or do you remember Spanish gold. ah the memories
BB BATS
Mmm, pint pots!
The little gummies that were supposed to taste like beer!!
You can buy all of these from www.cybercandy.co.uk. Roll on the retro sweet fest tomorrow night. x
How come I can't answer, I remember 1/2 penny sweets! I liked the chocolate mice the best. I'm 27
I always had to have a combination: those chocolate covered caramel logs, black jacks and fruit salad chews, space invaders, and prawns and bananas (those kind of spongy candies). Oh, and liquorice laces and Catherine wheels, and remember the liquorice pipes - the had a stem and bowl like a smoking pipe with red hundreds and thousands at the end of them like it was burning. I used to think I liked the ice cream cornets filled with soft marshmallow too, but I used to end up digging out the marshmallow and leaving half the cone! oooh, these sort of questions are mean - I want to go sweetie shopping now!
Hard Liquorice-its called Bassetti now.
foam shrimps, they aren't like they used to be.
shrimps. and flying saucers.
black jacks you got 4 for a penny
My neighbor gave me a dime to fold diapers and I went up to the store to buy the penny candy. The candy dots that came on a roll of paper, you had to bite it off of the paper. My brother used to buy "psychedelic gum". It was a big disk of little pieces of gum all different colors (kind of like cheese curds).
Circus Peanuts. I still buy these things by the bag and continue to eat them until I get sick.
SPACE SHIPS THEY USE TO MELT IN YOUR MOUTH
Candy dots, candy necklaces, the flying saucer things that melted in your mouth.
Yummmmm.candy!
milk teeth, golden nugget bags, black jacks, that pink bubble gum that came in a blue and white wrapping and had a cartoon on the inside. Chocolate covered bananas, cola bottles - sugar coated and non-sugar coated. Traffic light lollies, jazzies, those little cellophane wrapped sweets by Swizzels that were all different colours, refresher chews....
I am back there in the 70's - with my 10p, buying a bag full !!
It has to be black jacks i loved them and shrimps yum yum
Refreshers, the ones that are yellow with sherbert inside not the fizzy ones in packets. Or Drumstick lollies. Both varieties still available, but alas much smaller than they used to be!
WHOPPER
Black Jacks and Fruit Salads, McGowans Highland Toffee and Tiger Nuts
