All the above ways of cooking rice will result in sticky rice. The best way is to take 1 measure of rice (cup, mug, whatever size is convenient) and to fry lightly in vegetable oil - only about 1 tablespoon or less for 2 mins. Meanwhile boil some water in a kettle, and when it is boiling, add one and a half measures of boiling water to the rice. The rice will be fluffy and not at all sticky - all the water will be absorbed and there will be none to drain off, as the oil coating prevents the starch from coming out. 1 part rice to 2 parts water. Bring water and rice to boil in pot, cook for about 20 minutes.

I cook it in the microwave. One cup rice, two cups water. 5 minutes at the High setting, then 15 minutes at the Medium setting. Works well for me. Good luck!
chop an onion into small pieces and fry them in the pan with a little olive oil and add salt. let them fry for a while untill just going brown. get some basmati rice. one small cup full per person
and wash and rinse it to get all the starch out. then stir it in the pan with the onions and then pour warm water over the rice and fill just over the rice level.
keep lid on the pan and cook quite high untill rice soaks up all the water. your rice should be nice and fluffy .
if its to watery then take the lid off for a few mins it will dry out.

Cooking rice is very easy. The instructions are on the box. Boil some water in a sauce pan, then add the rice with a little salt and butter.Stir in the rice and bring back to a boil. Reduce heat and cover. Let it simmer for about twenty minutes or until water is gone.
not going to repeat above but if you find it goes abit dry and sticky put half a cup of water back in it stir and place a teatowel over the top for 10 mins
I agree with Just Me. In the microwave. It never burns either. Don't forget to wash the rice well before cooking and add about 2tsp of sesame oil and a couple 3 cubes of chicken flavoring or not. good luck
Follow directions on the box or bag. Most of the above answers are right. Just a couple of hints. During the 20 minute simmer time use as low a flame as possible and never remove the cover for the 20 minutes.
Usually with long cooking rice ( which I recommend, no minute rice etc). You use 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water. Add a little salt, pepper, parsley or dried chives while cooking. Your rice will look pretty and taste good. Your rice will take around 15 - 20 minutes to cook. Start your rice in cold water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and cover. Check rice periodically but do not stir. When most of the water has been absorbed taste your rice. If it is not tender enough add a little water and cook 5 more minutes. Make sure it does not burn. Fluff with a fork before serving.
For perfect basmati rice every time it's easy. Put 1 part rice and 1 and a half parts boiling water in a pan, return to boil, stir once, cover and simmer on LOWEST gas for 12 minutes. Job done. I find a mug of rice is enough for 2-3 giving generous portions.
I think it's hilarious that you can get "easy cook" or boil in the bag rice when it's so easy to do anyway.

The best loose rice I have ever had is Tesco own brand (American easy cook long grain rice) in a blue bag. Depending how many you are cooking for, boil a large saucepan of water (add little salt) then add rice (there are measures per person on side of bag). Add to boiling water and the secret is to stir it just the once when added. Simmer for 15 minutes then drain and serve-perfect every time!!
Buy a rice cooker, follow instructions, throw everything in and open a bottle of wine - Forget the bag, forget the saucepan.
Use a maximum of 100g rice for each adult person (this will give you excess)
Check what volume your rice occupies in a measuring cup (you will need twice that volume of liquid).
Put some olive oil in a saucepan, heat it up.
If you like a bit of extra flavour in your rice, chuck in a chopped up garlic clove and half an onion, plus salt and pepper or maybe a stock cube. Some people also add tomato puree.
