Would drinking 17cl of 40% proof whisky put someone over the limit?
Suppose:
Bodyweight: 13 stone
Height: 5 foot 9
& drink a half bottle of a 'half bottle' of Glen Rossie whisky. Would that make one unfit to drive? If so, how long before one could be allowed to drive after it?
Answers:
i would say yes, it sounds alot to drive on but it varies with different people. I wouldn't like to take the risk.
You couldn't say, it varies from person to person depending on many factors including their metabolism.
But at a guess, after a half bottle of whiskey - yup unfit to drive.
Yes that would definatley put you over the limit!
Probably wouldnt be able to drive for a good 10 hours!!
It probably would - and don't forget, it's not how drunk you are it's how much alcohol is on your breath.
I usually work on 1 hour for each unit of alcohol before I drive. So if I have a shandy - 1 hour, if I'm on a double figures bender I'd leave it 24 hours.
I think 25ml of Whisky is roughly 1 unit, and 4 roughly equates to the drink-drive limit in the UK, so 17cl is about 6 units. I'd be careful if I was you.
i shouldn't think that would put somebody over the limit, i drink twice that most days. done me no harm so far, but there's a few flat cats and dogs on the road round my way
As far as the law is concerned, the answer is yes.
Try it and see
yes it certainly would put you over the limit.
i wouldn't risk driving for at least a good ten hours if not more.
just to be on the safe side
Assuming this is someone with an average metabolic rate. 17cl of 80 proof whisky within 1.5 hour will put you above 0.08% blood alcohol.
At that body mass, it will take about 1 hour to flush out 4cl of the whisky. You need to wait 2 hours or so to have the blood alcohol level under the legal limit and about 4 hours to completely sober up.
As for the "fit to drive" Some people will not be fit even after just 2cl of whisky.
Does it matter? You drink whiskey to get drunk anyways.
How about this.if you drink..get someone ells to drive you.
Be safe!
