What kind of blood test does a G.P. perform regarding drunk driving?

I know this is a terrible offence, but a friend of mine has to attend a doctor on Friday for a medical which he requires before he gets his licence back. What does the test look for. My friend has not touched a drink since (a year). What would you think is involved?

Answers:
I had the same thing.
the test is to find out if the blood donor has a drink problem-if they do they will not be allowed back on the road.

From the blood test, information can been found regarding the blood donors drinking habits.
somehow(i am not a doctor) the examiner can tell how the blood donors liver is functioning.
if the blood donor has a problem with alcohol the blood test will show.
some people think that if they stop drinking for a few days before the test, then they will beat the exam-this is not true.
if your friend is not drinking or if they are a sensible drinker-there should not be a problem
Probably the blood alcohol level? High is bad, low is good?
I would imagine it will be a routine blood test looking for alcohol and drugs, then maybe the whole eyesight test, co-ordination etc. to take advantage of the fact you are in with a GP.
i imagine blood test to test the level of alchol ( if any) in his blood would be taken and sent off. also just general health really.
lets hope your friend has learn his lesson and will never do this again - its so dangerous
I would imagine a liver function test also would be involved to check if he has been drinking.
