Concentrated drinks query?
My question concerns concentrated fruit drinks and squashes i.e. ribena or robinsons etc. Everything is fine when you add the correct amount of juice and water, suited to your own taste of course. But why, when you dont get enough juice and too much water, can you not add more juice afterwards? Well, you can, but it wont signifcantly change the taste, even if you keep adding more concentrate. However if you were to put the same amount in first time, it would be very strong.
Any ideas?

Can't say i have noticed this.
I have certainly added concentrate to a previously over diluted drink and found it improved the flavour as expected.
You need to perform a blind test to see if this is actually a real phenomenon or simply a false perception.
I would suggest you measure out the proper amount of cordial and water separately for about 9-12 drinks. then get a friend to prepare the drinks in 3 different ways:
1 Correct amount of cordial at the beginning then add water and stir.
2.Start with the water then add the cordial and stir.
3 Add half the cordial then the water, stir then add the rest of the cordial and stir again.
Your friend should then label the drinks A,B and C (in random order but obviously taking notes so that they know how each drink was prepared.)
Another friend (who does not know which drink is in which glass) should then serve the drinks to yourself and possibly some other friends. You should then rate each glass as to how strong the drink is.
Do this 3 or 4 times then check the results to see if you have been able to detect if there is any difference between the different methods of preparing the drinks.
If you find that there is a difference then you could perhaps investigate further and win an IgNobel prize
I just buy ready mixed Ribena and Vimto.
Mixing is too much of a headache.
I think it make a difference the thing might be that your taste butts already have the first taste test.
i put the juice in after all the time, it doesnt make any difference.

Simple - add as much as you need and stir it with a spoon.
maybe because the juice is artificial.
but a person should be able to make the drink to suit your taste.
Buying already made juices is what I do most.
