Should you not take your kids to the circus?
Answers:
I think that the vegan thinks that all circuses involve animal cruelty. This is not necessarily true. Many animals love to perform and although it may not seem natural for them to do it, there must be something in it for them to do it naturally.
An animal will 'perform' to give pleasure to its keeper and takes pleasure in doing so. The animal doesn't necessarily do it for food and water - it does it to provide pleasure, in the same way a pet dog will lick you feet or hands - it is his/her way of petting you.
Some circuses are good and some are bad - but at least if you take your children they will be able to see and decide for themselves. Knowledge breeds knowledge - if you just stop the kids from going to the circus they will never have the opportunity to make their own minds up. Give them the chance to make their own decisions.
Because of cruelty to animals??
Providing animals are not part of the act, there is no reason why you should not take children to the Circus.
Take them to a circus that doesn't have performing animals.
I think that using wild animals in a circus is unforgivable and would never take my grandchildren to a circus with animals
I don't think you should take them anywhere - you might embarass them! If you were my Dad and came to visit I'd hide behind my sofa and not answer the door to you!!
Because those jerks are cruel to those animals, they deserve to be in the wild and free. And those clowns aren't so good as well, I dislike them very much.
Why not? I suggest Circus Soliel or circus luniere or any other circus. Of course it is up to you whether you think that there should be animals. Or maybe your children?
The animals are forced to work for food and shelter and some find this demeaning. Guess what, I'm a vegetarian and I work for my food and shelter. I have had boss's yell and scream, throw things and tell me to do things I don't want to. Yes, I have the option of quitting and finding a better job, animals don't have that luxury. Some animals are severly mistreated, caged and never have the ability to run and enjoy life. This is part of the reason why you see those shows "Animals Gone Wild", where the circus elephants attack and so on. It's your choice if you want to go to the circus with your children or not. They are fun, entertaining and a family activity. I walk on grass and cut my lawn even though that might be hurting the grass too by the way. Some vegans won't even do that.
I'm not a big fan of Peta. That said, they have a wonderful section on their website about this issue. check it out. www.peta.com
Yes, not all circuses have animal acts. Many have acrobats and contortionists, jugglers trapeze and other high wire acts, clowns of course and `comedy` cyclists and magicians. They can be great. There are also the specialist circus, usually from abroad, in particular the "The Chinese Peoples" circus, which is a splendour of talent and music and Las Vegas costumes. The children sit mesmerised.
Regarding your vegan friend;- I`d be inclined to tell them to mind their own business, It is up to you what you allow your children to see!
well i have taken all my children too the circus, these days its so different there where two horses and that was it the rest was clowns acrobat's it was really good and the children really had a fab time but every body too there own thoughts...
having been around some famous animal trainers, and watching them care for thier animals, which is exactly as if they were thier children, it's a shame you would rob your kids from getting to see them. The tigers are beautiful.
By keeping your kids secluded because someone else told you to not do something, is wrong, and wholly stupid. It's like saying do not go to any farms because 'all farms are cruel'.
I live on a farm, and I know we are not cruel, or inhumane with our animals, and I don't like animal rights people contending all farmers are evil.
I feel the same way about what they say about circuses.
Of course not, all that cruelty to poor innocent clowns.
What have they done to anyone? But they are continually laughed at and forced into inadequately sized cars in large number, so as they are so cramped can hardly move; such confinement is terrible abuse and should be illegal.
What's more, it's a rip off, you hardly ever see any decent animal acts these days.
Hmmmm. maybe because its animal cruelty?
They degrade the animals, its good to take kids to a circus because they can learn to appreciate them, but a zoo would be much better, who likes clowns anyways?
Wild animals do not belong in a circus - they are out of their natural environment - they are abused by trainers and kept in tiny cages barely big enough to turn around in. Would you want that life?
wild animals do not belong in cages or in the circus, they should not be trained to entertain others. they should be let go into the wild where they belong.its cruelty to animals!!
I knew the circus was cruel to animals even when I wasn't a vegetarian. It doesn't exactly take rocket science to figure that out!
Vegans don't believe tht we should cage up the animals, thats why.
Many people who care for the welfare of other beings consider the conditions in which animals are kept and treated in circuses to be unacceptable.
Surely the attraction of seeing a tiger, for example, is to marvel at nature's creation (Tyger, Tyger burning bright and all that). Watching some spirit broken, moth eaten toothless whipping boy cower in a corner and be jumped through hoops kind of takes away from it, don't you think?
Besides, the human acts at circuses like the Chinese state circus are fantastic - who needs to see an arthritic elephant being forced onto a box by some nobber with a stick, when you can watch highly trained athletes at the peak of physical conditioning?
As for the type of imbecile who goes round randomly "freeing" tamed animals, they're not really helping anyone and need to put their spare time to more constructive use. If you behave like a pratt, you'll be seen as one and that hardly helps give your argument much credance.
i've never been to a circus so i wouldn't know but you could try.
