I've just discovered that I'm lactose intolerant. Why is there lactose in almost everything?

To annoy lactose intolerant people
There isn't, lactose is only in milk and some dairy products.
I have no idea my son was as a baby and it became a night mare to check every thing even some breads and most biscuits lukely for me he grew out of it
Lactose is a naturally ocurring enzyme in most dairy products.
There is a lot of lactose in things, but there are lactose tablets that are sold over the counter and they really do work! I take them all the time. Also, eating yogurt with live bacteria is safe as well. Life isn't over just because you're lactose intolerant. Just learn how to work around it and you'll be fine.
Food health stores sell nice products for vegans. All vegan stuff is guarranteed without lactose. So, at least you can still spoil yourself a little if you're craving for sweets or cookies or even chocolates..
Lactose is a cheap natural product used to upgrade lousy pre-fab food, like white bread. Whole meal bread usually does not contain lactose.
there isnt. Lactose is really only found in milks, cheeses and other similar dairy products. If you see it in unrelated products it's because it's been added there, so you'll need to check labels before you buy to be on the safe side.
it is the sugar compound of milk and many other foods
I'm wheat intolerant and you would not believe how many things have wheat and wheat derivatives in them! Even glace cherries. Can you believe it???
Asda, Tesco's, Sainsbury's and Holland and Barrett espcially all have lactose free ranges, there not too expensive and they taste great. Try the alpro soya stuff, the yogurts and shakes are great, even the soya milk is not bad, all vegan food is lactose free aswell.
Good Luck!
An intolerance can go away aswell, I was wheat intolerant for 2-2 1/2 years I solved it by slowly poisoning myself, just eating a tiny bit every now and then, but that isn't advisable to all as my problem was only stomach cramp and lathargy.
lactose is in many things you wouldn't even expect it to be in. my gastroenterologist told me it's in 80-90% of everything we ingest. it's used as a binder in many processed foods and also in most medications. it is not mentioned on all nutrition information labels so you have to pay attention to how you feel after eating certain foods and eliminate them if they bother your stomach too much.
i've been lactose intolerant for most of my life. it can sometimes be painful and inconvenient, but it sure won't kill you. i still enjoy some dairy products even though i know they'll hurt my stomach. i just try to have them when i know i'm not going anywhere or doing anything that might be disrupted by the consequences.
