How do you check an egg is boiled without a timer or a clock?

Answers:
My coworker used to work where they made them and she said that if you take them out and the shell dries in 2-3 seconds its done.
spin it, if it doesnt spin its not cooked
chef
If it spins, it's boiled..an uncooked egg wont spin.
just leave it on high for 15 minutes then its done
Crack it open then you will find out.
1. Gently place the egg on its side on a countertop.

2. Spin the egg.

3. If the egg spins freely, it's hard-boiled.

4. If it wobbles and stops spinning, it's not hard-boiled.

Some general advice: http://whatscookingamerica.net/eggs/boil.

And my own personal tip on how to ensure the hard-boiled egg does not go grey inside is to quickly dash the boiled egg(s) into cold water and then peel them!
if the water is already boiled and the egg will not spin and you could see some crack somewhere around the egg, now that's boiled.
Just turn on your t.v and wait from a commercial to the next. Works everytime.
Twist it on like a top on the table. If it twist fast and well it's cooked. If it does twist at all it is raw. You may also write "cooked" on the shell of cooked eggs, it's more reliable. Salut
try spinning it on a smooth surface. if the egg does not spin, it is not cooked.
Personally, when I hear it boiling in the kitchen I run in and turn heat off. Its usually cooked just right. Yolk just a bit soft. I find my eggs just cook themselves, and I drink loads of wine whilst waiting. Best food ever!
I usually spin it.boiled egges don't spin.
My friend mentioned about spinning it. It was the wrong tablecloth and he was exploded on. Runny egg everywhere.
If it's out the fridge leave it for 6 mins. Otherwisr 3-4 mins.
boil the egg for what you think is roughly 4 mins. I know you dont have a timer or clock but you can count cant you?. when you think the time is up take the egg and spin it . if the egg wobbles and moves erraticly( no idea how you spell that , soz, ) then it is not hard boiled. centrifugal forces on the liquid inside are causing the wobble. if however it spins on its own centre with no wobble ( e.g no liquid ) then it is cooked. or you could pay £1.20 at your local greasy spoon ,your choice.
why would you want to
It all depends upon how you like your boiled eggs.

Dunkable or hard boiled
Hard Boiled Eggs are of the easiest things to cook.

Place eggs in water (1 inch above the eggs) turn the stove on high and cover and as soon as the water STARTS to boil vigorously turn off the stove and keep the cover on 16 min. or count 960 seconds in your head (one one thousand, two One thousand.)

works every time!
put two in of the same size check one i f that one isn't done neither is the other then wait a bit longer
if you want hard boiled just make sure it has been boiling for at least 10mins
Forget spinning the egg !
Place the egg in COLD water and bring to the boil, watch it boil for about 30secs, then turn off the heat and cover the pan with a plate so that the steam does not escape, now cut your bread into soldiers, not too fast. Ok take the egg out and put it under cold running water for about 20 to 30 secs.
place the egg into the egg cup, crack the top, add a little salt and dip away with the soldiers. I guarantee this will work, if not ill come and cook them for you myself

good luck
Whilst camping, without an egg timer, I found that if you put the egg. and cold water in your saucepan at the same time, when the water reaches boiling point, an boils well for a minute, that should give you one perfectly boiled egg, as everything in theory has reached boiling point at the same time? Try it - Well it worked for me!
When you lift the egg out of the water and it drys straight away then it is hard boiled.
I like a soft centre myself this takes exactly 3mins if you place the egg in just when the water starts to boil you will need a clock or count to 180, IE 1 Mississippi 2 Mississippi 3 Mississippi .etc etc.
put the eggs into boiling water. If you like to dip your "soldiers" count to 180; if you prefer a hardboiled egg leave it for a while longer.
I have just got an egg out of the fridge and spun it, and guess what, it spun quite freely.
So much for the if it spins its not cooked theory.
I boil it for 3 mins and then lift the egg out with a metal spoon, move away from pan quickly and start counting whilst watching water on egg evaporate, when I get to 10 if water all evaporated egg is just nice and runny, before 10 its too hard, after 10 its not ready, try it.
