Fish and Chips?

I live in Hull, and unfortunately, when you buy fish and chips from here, there is skin left on the fish. Not just a few bits, but the whole of one side is just skin. And lets face it, its minging.
I would like you all to tell me where you live and whether or not they leave the skin on the fish in your part of the world.
I may consider moving house!!!

Emma, don't know where you get your fish and chips from but where I work down Hedon Road, Marfleet Fisheries take the whole skin off. 'Tis very yummy once in a while!! :-)
You can't get fish and chips here in the USA..wish I was back in England.
Hull - I ask you, what do you expect ?

Tip: place your fish skin side down on the plate and just eat the flesh on top and leave the underside altogether.

You bastard, now I'm absolutely starving.

The best i ve ever had was in London with mashed peas ! u ll know when its the best when its served in newspapers. its only the old joints that still do it like that.
We don't have fish and chips here in North Texas unless you count Long John Silvers. They do not leave skin on their fish.
Live in Luton and my local chippie is fab. Got loads of good food awards and no they don't leave the skin on.
i,m in nottingham and yes ours is the same!
I think they leave the skin like that because the fish is delicate and will disintegrate during cooking if not held together. You're right though it is minging, I'm with the pie man!
thats how fish is supposed to be ya daft yorkie! u wud no that if u lived over the river in my town! GRIMSBY!!!!
Don't move house yet, from what i hear fish stocks are depleated. Soon nobody will get any fish.
I live in Welling, no skin here : )
I live in London .. and yes we have skin on . but the best fish and chips I have had came from a lovely chippie in Hastings . right opposite the fish shops in the old part of town ..yum yum
Fish 'n' chips is best served in London. Naturally. It depends on how they cook it. If its cooked well then the skin sticks to the paper and peels off before you eat it. Try cooking your own in tin foil in the oven for about 20 mins it comes out great!

Oh set the gas so that its real hot like a gas mark 7.

Or move to London!
I live in Essex and even though I hate fish I have never seen it with the skin on here. Sounds real nasty.
Most places leave it on. And have you noticed that since chip shops are not longer run by greasy middle aged white people most of them no longer sell really good chips, you know the nice crispy golden kind which aren't still dripping oil and are hot? All chips from chip shops now are normally either soggy or brown cos they've been kept warm too long!
Im in the states and its hard to find good chips let alone good fish.
There are a few places though some leave the skin on I dont go to those anymore. Some dont though its pretty yummy.
Good luck in your hunt for good fich and chips.
Pass the vinegar
I live in Texas, and I get fish and chips every chance I get. I love it. Its my favorite. But every place I have ever gone has never left the skin on. If they did, I dont think I would like it so much.
Here in Louisiana the skin is left on the fish unless it's catfish. The skin is only removed from catfish because it's tough and absolutely horrible, much worse that the skin of any other fish.
Can you make your own and take the skin off? Maybe it wouldn't taste exactly like the ones ya buy, but is shouldn't because you took the skin off. Good Luck making some or finding some..
Come to Scotland to sample the best fish and chips,
no skin at all. Specially if you go to some of the fishing
village, their fresh haddock and hand cut thick chips
is the top. Norway , I would say the second best.
I live in Essex. Im not a great lover of fish but i went to Southen for dinner along the see front not so long ago and thought id give the fish a try, it didnt have any skin on it at all to my relief.

I have tried that frozen cod in breadcrumbs from tescos before and that had loads of skin on it, couldnt eat it. YUCK
I'm from Lowestoft, which renowned for its fish and chips and I love it! But there is always one side of skin on the fish, so i just stick to a battered sausage!!!
I phoned John Prescott on this matter. He tells me skin is left on to stop the fish disintegrating in the fryer . John likes all fish, but his favourite is skate. OK my love.
i'd be gutted if they left the skin on my fish. round my neck of the woods they leave it off and it tastes better without. i'm from south Manchester.
They dont do that in Goole which is near you.I live in Keighley and they don't have the skin on them here either.
Cork, Ireland. The skin is left on. Doesn't bother me though. Deepfat frying fish in batter is the best way to cook it, and apparently the healthiest, once you remove the batter first though.
