Thinking of getting a DS Lite, do u need 2 copies of the same game to play multi-player or a special cable?
Want to buy one for me and girlfriend for trip to australia, and want to play mario kart etc and don't really know how DS works, wi-fi and all that

Playing a multiplayer game on the DS/DS Lite works wireless. If two copy's of the game are needed for it depends on the game. I suggest that you check the box of the game for it, this information can usually be found at the back of the case on the top right side.

I'm pretty sure you only need one copy, but i'd get 2 just to be sure, I know it's alot of expense, but if you both can't play then it'll be a let down.

You don't need a cable to play with another person, the data is send wirelessly from one DS to another. So just get one game, or if you are worried, test out the multiplayer function before you leave so you can buy and extra game if possible.
P.S. Last time I was on a plane, they stole my DS and I got it back upon return. They believed it to be a weapon of some sort.
For Mario Kart, no. You won't need two copies. If you had two copies, the other DS would't have to worry about having to download the software, but that only takes about 2 minutes. It is wireless, no cables needed. All the DS games I own only need one copy of the game. (Mario Kart, Brain Age, Tetris, New Super Mario Bros., and Club House Games). The only time for sure that you need two carts is if you are playing by Wi-Fi with someone not close to you. (Say you're in Australia and your girlfriend is in California.) But if you are near, the other DS can download the software from your DS and you will be playing multiplayer games wirelessly.

no u only need one card to play most games but some for like specail features u need both liuke morio cart u can both play but the one w/out the cartrage can only play as shy guy but other than that most games u only need one cartrage to play w/ out and differences
