Answers:
depends on what you want to do and what your budget is
diMage Z3 is a good beginner camera - I use one myself! :)
Depending on budget I'd go for something with at least 4 megapixels.
dont buy canon,)the're shite) ive got a fugi finepix s5500, very easy to use, reasonably priced and packed with xtras, doddle on the pc too
buy an Olympus OM-2 or Olympus OM-4 35 mm SLR film camera used on eBay.they are no longer made but are great cameras.
The usual one people use to train on is a Pentax K1000 manual film SLR, it's a very solid and reliable camera that'll last forever if taken care of. There are quite a few very similar cameras available though which will be cheaper to buy - the Ricoh KR-5 is one, the Ricoh KR-10 is another but has extra features such as aperture priority (auto-exposure), self timer, and exposure compensation. The Vivitar v2000 is a very basic film SLR with the same features as the Pentax K1000 but it's not as well built and doesn't have that slick feel to it.
They all are capable of taking excellent professional-grade photographs, when it comes to film SLR's it's down to the photographer and not the technology as to how good your shots will be! The 50mm lens on the Pentax K1000 is possibly one of the best available.
PS You won't learn much about photography using a digital camera, they rely on automatic settings too much; it'd be like learning to fly in an F-16 Falcon jet!
If you are planning on taking a course, speak to your course tutor. My friend had several recommended to her that way, and she just picked the one in her price range.
