I would not tell anyone until I verified with the lottery that I did indeed win. If I won a million dollars or more, I would keep working at my job until I consulted an attorney and financial investment counselor so I would intelligently invest the money and this would give me time to think about how I would proceed with my life in the future from that point.
From what I've heard, it appears people who settle for one lump settlement often foolishly squander their winnings. However, I think I would accept the lump sum and invest it so that the profits from my investments would provide me with monthly income to live on, rather than opting for the monthly payment payout. I would invest a portion in real estate, including land for myself and my son.
I probably wouldn't be able to sleep all night, I'd be so excited!
Once I thought I'd won about 15,000 dollars, and called my mom, then I looked at the ticket again and realized I'd made a mistake, and that I'd only won a few dollars. Talk about embarassing, but it was fun for a moment to feel like a lottery winner!
How would I spend the the money from my investments?
1. Have a monthly amount I would budget myself to live on
2. Offer my son the option to have a trust account set up
in his behalf which he could tap into after he reaches age 30.

3. I'd buy myself and my son new cars. He'd like one of those hybrid cars. and I guess that might be a smart idea for me as well at the rate the price of oil continues to remain high in America.
4. I'd buy a modest house for myself and one for my son. I'd want mine to be made of stone, concrete or brick with a basement and attic, a fenced yard, and a garage (something solid that would withstand all kinds of weather and have low maintenance requirements).
5. I would pay to have my son and myself get orthodonics, get our teeth professionally bleached, and any other dental work recommended so we'd improve our dental health and smiles and attractiveness.
6. I'd get my tattoos removed by a plastic surgeon with laser treatment.
7. I'd get a chemical peel or dermabrasion for my face and perhaps botox to improve the appearance of my face (I previously suffered from severe acne).
8. I'd help my mother financially (who now lives on Social Security) for the rest of her life so she would be comfortable and have her needs taken care of.
9. I would set up trust accounts for my 3 nieces and my great-niece and great-nephew which they could access when they turn 30.
