Is it possible to play PSP games off the memory card? if so is it legal?

yeah. if ya have a game on the memory card it can be classed as a back-up so you would need to own the original. (not that it would ever be questioned!!)
Check ebay for a wide range of "back up" discs full of games to save you transfering them.

Yeah to the first part, nope to the 2nd.. if you have a psp with firmware 1.5 then its possible if you have updated to 2.7, or 2.71 then you will NEVER be able to do it..
p.s - Elliot H - the dude below this, you are incorrect it is possible to emulate 2.7 etc on a 1.5 but not the other way round, there is NO patch for a 2.7 if there is such a patch why not paste a link?? and by the way gizmondo has %$^%$& all to do with psp!! check ur sources
Silent Assassin's information is incorrect, if you have updated your firmware version to 2.7 or above a new patch has been released allowing you to change it back to 1.5 if you want to keep the internet or even 1.0.
It is legal to play games from the memory card as long as you own the original. Problem is a lot of people don't own the original and instead just download games from the internet and put them on their memory cards.

Yeah, my friend did it and told me about it. (He's really smart with computers) He used an imulater and dumbed the UMDs from his PSP onto his Memory stick. In other words, he put a UMD in the PSP, then he used (UMDdumper) which can be found under the game incon. You have to download the software first. Any way, when your finnished, you could copy many games depending on the memory size of the UMD game and you Memory stick. The graphics will be the same, sound the same and the loading times will .. actually there is no loading time since you don't use a UMD ( Need to have a UMD in the PSP because the system will think that you are not using the memory stick). But all this is infact illegal. Unless you own the game your copying.

All of the above is true. 2.71 can play demos off the stick like LocoRoco which paves the way for future games which you can download and play (legally).
