Can anyone please explain to me the rules of dominoes?

Answers:
The dominoes are mixed up and placed face down. Each player takes 6 dominoes and places them so that the other players can't see their value. The remaining dominos are left face down.

The first person to play is that person holding the double-six, or failing that the double-five and so on. The tile played must be the double tile that permitted the player to take the first turn. If none of the players hold a double, then the tiles are reshuffled and re-drawn.

Each player must in turn then play a tile onto the table positioning it so that it touches either end of the domino chain which thus gradually increases in length. A player may only play a tile which has upon it a number showing at one end of the domino chain or the other.

Each tile being placed must be positioned so that the two matching ends are adjacent. Unless, the tile is a double, the tile can be placed square in any one of the three directions as long as the two matching sides are touching fully. Doubles are always placed cross-ways across the end of the chain. A tile played to a double must also be placed accordingly - perpendicular to the double touching at its middle.

If a player can lay a domino, then it must be played. Otherwise the player "knocks", or raps the table and play passes to the next player.

Normally play stops when one player "chips out" (plays his last domino) If it reaches a point at which no player can proceed, the winners are the partners whose combined sum of all spots on their remaining dominoes is the least.

For the basic game, I agree with fishintheear apart from the number of 'bones' taken per person.
The game can be played by from two to four players. With 2 players 7 bones are taken each, with three or four players, 5 bones are taken each.
However Dominoes is the name of the playing pieces, the 28 pieces, or bones.
Once you have learnt the game as given by fishintheear, there are many different versions, to learn. When you have got used to the basic game, go to the library and borrow a games book with other domino games in, many others have more opportunity for skilful play.
yes order the meal deal its great value! thats my rule
How To Play Dominoes

The draw game is the most common form played, although there are hundreds of variations.
Instructions
STEP 1: Count that there are 28 dominoes, from double blank to double six. STEP 2: Place them facedown on the table and shuffle them until they're random. STEP 3: Allow your opponent to take seven dominoes, and take seven for yourself. STEP 4: Allow the player with the highest double to go first. STEP 5: Lay a domino with like value next to the first domino (it doesn't matter which end). Make sure like values are always touching. STEP 6: Pick from the pile if you don't have a domino that corresponds to the ones on the layout. Keep those dominoes concealed from your opponent(s). STEP 7: Pass if no more dominoes are left in the pile. STEP 8: Win the session if you're the first person to run out of dominoes. STEP 9: End the session if everybody passes, in which case the winner is the person with the lowest score. STEP 10: Count your score by the number of dots on the tiles remaining in your hand. STEP 11: End the game if someone reaches 50 points in a game with two players or 100 points with three or more players. The lowest score wins. Tips & Warnings
If you're playing with three or four players, each player should take five dominoes.
If more than two are playing, play rotates clockwise.
If no double is held by any player to determine who will go first, the domino of the highest value is counted.
Keep the largest assortment of different numbers in your hand as long as possible. If you have a choice of playing the 5-4 or 5-3 on an open 5, you should choose according to whether or not you have other 4s or 3s in your hand.
If you lay a double, the layout then forms a T shape and play can continue from any of the exposed ends.
moving forward , jumping your partner as often as possible ,reaching the top end of the board .double up (crowning)

i play domindoes for a team in Scotland, this is how we play:

shuffle doms, and pick 3.
each player picks one dom, and then the 3rd is turned over, the player with the closest domino to that, downs.
shuffle doms.
each player picks 7 doms.
each player tries to out play the other. and it is the best out of 3. Each taking it in tuen to down.

domunique is right and she has told you the easiest way, match the dots, thats it, the basic game..
basicly in short:

you have to have the same number on your domio the one your connecting it to.

and you het points if each end of the dominos are a multiple of 3 or 5.

so for instance if you get 3 on one end and 6 on the other end:

3 + 6 = 9 - doe not go into 5 but: 9 / 3 = 3 so you get 3 points.

can anyone explain the name erdinger dunckle?
Simple see one play one
i played dominoess for years and you never start with the double six, you start with 28 dominoes it is usually 4 players they take 7 dominoes each, who ever has the double zero starts the game then the next player has to have a dominoe with a zero on it to continue i have seen many a fight in pubs over people trying to hide the double six in pints of Guinness as most of the fun in the game is trying to stop anyone getting to play the double six
I think the problem lies in the wording of the question , you might as well have asked how do i play with a ball !

I play for a dominoes league in the midlands and we play 2 different games with dominoes. There is nearly always some argument over the rules which seem to vary from village to village.

Then after the match is finished we often have a game amongst ourselves playing by yet another different set of rules.

A favourite of mine is called Maltese cross , you would be best to avoid that one , the local old regulars took many a pound off me learning that one !
Stack them up on their ends and put them in a line. Feel free to either put them in a straight line or do a cool curvy design. Put them about 1/2 inch apart or so. Then say "ready set go" and tip over the first one in the line and have fun.

After all, this is what we all did with dominoes for years until we learned there was a real game behind it!
My Grandfather could.
R there any?
