We have a pond fish that lies on its side not moving for hours(it isn't dead). Anyone know the cause pl.?
Answers:
It sounds like swim-bladder disorder..caused by bacterial infection. My fish have had it,its not very nice when thay are swimming upside down !
I had a goldfish that done the same thing.
someone told me it was caused by trapped air
dont know if that is correct or not
sadly "cuff" is no longer with us
is it a floater?
i have fish that do this,it not very common, but you cant cure it,they move when the food goes in,if they eating ok,they be ok
There are actually some fish that is their nature such as flounder who develop to where eventually both eyes are on the same side. There may be a problem with the fish or it may actually prefer being on its side. What type fish is it? My husband's Oscar when scared especially when it was smaller would lie on its side trying to blend into the bottom of the tank as a survival technique which I find interesting but bothersome when it does this when I am cleaning out the tank. As long as it is eating and breathing I guess it is ok. Have you tried to sneak up and see if it is swimming around when you are not around it may be afraid of you.
swim bladder infection get some liquid drops from your local pet shop to put in water and in a few day's they should be ok. check the link's.

This sounds like its Swim-Bladder, its quite common in fancy goldfish. Your local fishstore should have something to help it.
