next doors window sits about a foot above my garden and we would like to improve privacy, also my son plays football in the garden and I am concerned about him breaking the window. would like to erect a screen for privacy/protection
Answers:
You can put up a screen anywhere on your own land. If it's on the boundary, it counts as a fence and most local authorities have a maximum height (7 ft is common). You mustn't make the screen so big that it stops the window getting light.
How about willow, so its not too harsh, though if it is quite close you may want to check that is ok with them first.
I would suggest a bush or dreaded Leylaandi conifer. The advantage of a tree or bush is that you can cut it back if there's a problem.
how would we know. You did not tell us what state city, or community you live in. All 3 of those will affect that. especially the last one.
One thing i can tell you for sure is it has to be on your property. Other then that it is up to the laws and rules where you live.
next time maybe include state city and township. That is needed to know for the rules. Also you may have community guide lines if you live in and addition, house development, or planed community. Those last rules would be in the contract you have with the community or in its charter.
Contact a local contractor they can give you specifics.
Also try talking to your neighbor to see if you can work out a solution, they may enjoy looking at your garden themselves and not mind your son playing.
It all depends on how friendly you are with your neighbor.
Up to the property line, unless your neighbors agree otherwise.
ask the neighbour first if you want live in peace.
