What besides scarying the **** out of you is the point of a spider?
I hate em and when one runs across the lounge floor i run out of the house much to the amusement of my 3 daughters and my wife.Even the dog looks at me and thinks im playing.

Dude - arachnaphobia is very real - check it out. And, spiders are very good creatures - rarely do they have an adverse effect on humans. They're creepy, but they eat lots of bugs. You must know that on some level, otherwise you may have posted in an area other than home and garden.
Really, I know several people who are also terrified of spiders, and I'd say it's somewhat normal. I'm not one of them, but I don't share my space with just any spider, you know? I allow some of the daddy longlegs to hang around because they're harmless to people, they don't want to be in any people spots (they like ceiling crevices and that's fine by me) they're very fragile, they don't look creepy and they're really good at catching flying bugs - which drive me nuts - especially mosquitoes! I'll take a daddy longlegs over a mosquito any day!
But, they're quite beneficial to the world (more so than people, I bet). For those spiders who think they'd like to be where I am (i.e. on the couch), I generally just trap them in a big glass and put them outside. They'll find better food there (people are not spider-food and spiders know that), and live happier little spidery lives, I'm sure.
I hate them too, but without them we would be over-run with flies, so I`m told...
My boyfriend is the same, i always have to rescue him from the dreaded spider!

Don't complain about spiders until you live in the tropics and large furry ones lurk everywhere including the shower. Their defense is to jump on you, which I always thought was odd for something that doesn't really bite. My roommate used to talk to them while he was showering.

Spiders are the predators that keep all the other little creepy crawlies under control. As in Population control.

Spiders are very useful part of the ecosystem, eats insects. Luckily they do not "attack" - only likely to bite you if you sit on them.

Well, they are good for trapping mosquitoes and other insects. Yea, but ya gotta wonder what insects are in the house eh? Well, you have the flies, mosquitoes, centipedes, catapilars, and a whole host of things if they are in your basement.
Best thing is, they like to live in damp and dark places, so, get a dehumidifier and dehumidify the house and you will take away a condition that they need.water and moisture to live.
