Where can i find a home to rent. (£300 pcm) I live in leigh, lancs. I will be homeless in three weeks?
The council have told me they will not house me. I am a single male (late fifties).
I came out of work a year ago when I became ill. The social were helping me with the rent but since my youngest son reached 18 they only pay £54 a week and so my landlord has given me notice.
I am looking for other accomodation but I don't have any money for a deposit or the usual month rent in advance. I have been assured by the council that they won't house me - government legislation has changed. A few years ago they would have housed me but no longer have to.
Answers:
Go to your local council rent office, ask for the address of the nearest homeless help office they can refer you to. I know the situation you're in. I was like it a few years ago. They'll give you alot of good advice, let you use their phone and help you better than anyone on here can.
get in contact with grosvenour housing or get the loot or local paper and look for a flat to rent there cheaper and easier to get
live with me.
Dear I think you're in the wrong country. I could tell you all about Toronto, Winnipeg etc, but you're too far away.
Go to Citizen's Advice Bureau, they're great at helping out with such things. They can tell you your rights etc. If you need to search for a place though then try fish4.co.uk.
Try a different council, they are obliged to house people. You could also try housing associations or go to the citizens advice bureau.
If you don't have any luck, try the Y.M.C.A.
Have you tried a Housing Association?

They dont ask for advances, are reasonably priced & accept people on benefits who need housing benefit.
I think its really unfair of your council to reduce your housing benefit - I can only presume its due to your son being a non-dependent now & cos they'll expect him to contribute to the rent.
Good luck
