I have cement walls so cannot put nails in to hang pictures. I found hooks made by "3M" company that are rated for the weight of whatever you are going to hang. They are held on by a suction strip.
I have had pictures hanging for 4 years now with no problems. I changed the placing of some of the pictures and by pulling a strip left behind the hook it came right off with no damage to painted walls.
I had a glue type hook before and when I went to move the picture part of the paint came off when I moved the hanger. I will never use the glue again.
Maybe...uh..paint peels and walpaper falls off.
Don't use it even if you find it. The glue would be suspect, and it's not worth a picture falling off the wall. Don't worry about this kind of damage, it's both normal and minor. Hang your stuff safely. Plus, you would likely damage the wall when you took the glue off.
My wife bought a glue gun. It is plugged into an outlet, and the glue comes out searing hot,she uses it for art work .I tried it on a brick and it was unbelievable, the strength it had.. In your case I imagine that a hook could be glued to the wall.
My husband used a product called No more nails to hold pictures in place in my house. Problem is if I want to change the pictures I will have to re-decorate as the paper comes away when you move the picture!
