How long after plastering a wall do you have to wait to paint it?

Answers:
I am a Painter/Drywaller for over 10 years. Listen to me.
On the pail of plaster that you buy there will be a set time as to when you can work with it. But, in my experience, it is always a matter if the plaster is dry to the eye and touch. So if it looks dry and it feels dry it is ready to be sanded. And Do Not use a sponge as suggested earlier, this will Not produce a smooth surface such as sanding will and it will also dampen exactly what you have been waiting for to be dry, the plaster.
If it cracks, that is not a problem, just sand as level with the wall as possible and give it another coat.
If it is a large surface you are doing then most likely the plaster will shrink slightly and you will have to give it a light coat again, maybe even a third time if you are filling major holes.
Prime everything before giving it your top-coats to avoid flashing.

Remember, the better the wall preparation, the nicer the wall will turn out when it is complete.
day or two
At least 24 hours to let the plaster set. The surface must be sand-papered smooth before painting also.
I would give it about 5 days to be on the safe side,
Just wait until it looks dry, so there are no wet patches and remember it will need a few coats of paint as much of it will be absorbed into the plaster
i was just about to ask the same question you saved me 5 points .i will wait for your answers thanks.
The plaster needs to dry out, which is dependant on the ambient temperature of the room. Don't apply to much heat to the room otherwise the plaster will dry out to quickly and potentially crack.
Your plaster will be dry to the touch within 24 hours. best to leave it a week, it will change colour dramatically in that time. Painting to soon could lead to the plaster coming off on your roller.
I would wait about three days ..then take a sponge just dampened with water ,not wet,and wipe any rough spots A sponge is better then sanding and its alot less mess..Remember that before you paint you have to use a primer first. It will keep the paint from sucking into the wall.Good Luck
Do you mean plastering as in a gray coat base on lathe and a thin white layer on the surface? Two three days after the last coat. Or do you have sheet rock and just spackeled the seams and joints? 24 hours after the seams are dried. If it is the first coat of paint on sheet rock you should prime it with kilz, as it seals the drywall and it prevents it from sucking up all of your paint.
At least 24 hours
should tell you on the plaster container I'd say 24 to 48 hours depending on humidity to give it enough drying time then sand it paint it then your done good luck
The walls in my home were recently plastered and the company that did them said to wait at least four full days before painting.
