New insect in the garden?

i was wondering if anyone else has seen a pretty spectacular butterfly which i saw last week. We have had a lot this year, normally the boring pale white variety but last week i saw one i have never seen before, one half of the wings was coloured bright red and the other a really beautiful sky blue colour. I live in gloucester.

Answers:
Could it be the Adonis Blue?
Could be a small tortoiseshell which is orange-red and black with a black and blue border. Newly emerged butterflies are particularly bright
from your description sounds like an adonis, not as common as some may think the boring white ones, 'cabbage white'
