My bag has mold growing on it can it be saved?

I have a large holdall bag that I use when I go traveling. I keep the bag a top of my wardrobe along with a couple of crates that are full of sports gear.

The problem is I must have put a sweaty shirt in one a the crates a while ago and it has gone moldy, the mold has grown over a load of other clothes and my holdall.

I've taken the hit with the clothes and binned them, but i would like to save the holdall as it cost about £100.

The mold only seems to going on the outside of the bag, and is green and fury. Is there any way I can clean the mold of and at the same time kill all the spores so there is no danger of anything I put in the bag going moldy?

Answers:
I would clean out all the mold, then spray it with Lysol and put it in the sun to kill all the spores. I might also try wiping it down with very weak bleach water then wipe it down with plain warm water.
I will help alot to set it in the sun for a whole day leaving it open to air out...
No, throw that bag in the trash and buy you another one.
You might try dry cleaning. It is a harsh process, that might kill all of the spores. Just a guess, shouldn't cost more than a few bucks, worth it to save a keepsake.
Only if the bag accepts Jesus as its personal savior.
when my sons cleats for football get that nasty moldy smell i put them in a bag,pop them in the freezer for a few days,it kills whatever is growing in there
Take it outside and carefully brush off any loose mold into a bag & discard bag.
Wash bag in hot water with non-ammonia laundry detergent and chlorine bleach (if material is safe to bleach) use color safe bleach if needed.

You can try washing in hot water without the bleach first and if this doesn't work, try the bleach (the bleach will kill the spores for sure, but you want to do the least damage to the bag- depending on the material)

To remove mold from leather, cover mold with petroleum jelly and let set for about 5 hours then rub it off.

Good luck. I have had some things that this works great for, and others that were too far gone.
You can try, after all if you just chuck the bag you know you will always wonder..lol And if you do ruin it you're no worse off.
