What one key tip can you give me with moving house?

Answers:
De-clutter. I filmed 15 people moving house this year with a full packing service and the most difficult and problematic moves were ones where people didn't get rid of their clutter first. Get boxes from a storage company and put everything in boxes - that way the boxes stack properly in either the car or van that you are using and damage and breakage is limited.
stay in the pub, let the professionals do it
Keep cool.. im going through it now and find myself counting to 10 alot of times
Don't lose your keys! hahahahahahahaha erm haha ahahahahaha classic don't worry can we play now?
Greetings!

Keep looking up!

Good Luck
Dump all the rubbish before you start packing
Remember to pack up your big screen plasma TV, but leave the kids behind, hahaha
it will be daunting at first but you will fine fine dont stress it.
Always get a reliable removal company and ensure freinds and family are around to help, so plan ahead, it makes it go much more smoothly.Good luck.
ORGANISATION IS THE KEY. Get plenty of boxes and labels. Label every single box by ie. Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom 1 etc

When you are moving from one place to the other you or the professionals simply move each box into the relevant room and then unpacking and sorting is cut by half. You could color code the labels for each room to make it quicker to identify at a glance. On each label also write down a summary of the contents, i.e. cds, bed linen, toileteries, knives, books etc.

Everything will slot into place sooner.

Good luck and enjoy your new start in life !!
Houses are very heavy, weighing many tonnes. Therefore not readily moved. If you do want to move your house. I would suggest hiring a very big crane.
Label the boxes with whats in them so when you get to your new place you know which room each box needs to be in, and don't foget to label the box with the tea, coffee, kettle, cups, etc in, coz you will want a cuppa after all the lifting!

Happy moving!
Don't move things with you that you have no use for. When packing clothes, throw away everything you haven't used in the last 2 years (or give to charity).

Throw away when you pack and when you unpack at your new place, throw away some more.

When you unpack, put all the boxes in one room or the garage if you have one. Only open up one box at a time and put things where they belong before you go to the next box.

Of course remember to mark all the boxes clearly so you know what's in them.

I know you only asked for one tip but I'm a generous person and give more than what is asked for
pack your kettle last!! have one specific box with kettle, cups, tea, coffee, sugar in it and have a carton of long life milk too. put it in the car with you so as soon as you get to the new house you know just where to lay your hands to make a brew!! isn't that the most important part of moving? a good supply of tea and coffee?
Don't lift anything that is too heavy.
Label all the boxes saying what room they need to go into. If you want to be even more organised you can number each box, and have a corresponding box saying what's in each box. It goes without saying that you won't get everything unpacked straight away, so if you know where everything is, that's going to help you.
It reads like you are in the UK?

Moving a HOUSE? OR moving from a house to another?

If it's the former, I suggest don't bother.

If it's the latter, I suggest it's accomplished millions of times a year, all over the planet. Each story has it's own horrors and smiles.

Do as much of the packing yourself as you can. Depending on where you live, buy your packing materials from a wholesale box or paper company. If you are moving a long distance be sure to tape your boxes with strapping tape on all edges. Mark your boxes with what is in them and/or what room you want them to be in at your next residence. Wrap breakables and delicate items in bubble wrap or unprinted newsprint. You can buy both in large rolls. It is best to hire professional movers for the large items unless you are strong and have some strong buddies to help. Get several estimates from the professionals. They are required to stick by their estimate within a certain percent. Sometimes you can find used moving boxes in the local paper or if you see someone else moving into the neighborhood before you and save a bundle on the cost. Or if you start early you can pick up boxes behind the grocery stores for free. Those boxes sometimes don't close up completely though. Moving is a pain but it can be fun if you are thoughtful and organized. Good luck!
Moving house is a pain, defo chuck anything that you don't use or need, we didn't use a removal firm we did it ourselves so rent the biggest van you are able to drive. Boxes, boxes and more boxes you will need them all. Pack your clothes in your suitcases and get as many people to help as you can. Pack kids and animals off to a friends or family member. Don't forget to take all your meter readings and tell your phone company you have moved and go to the post office to have your mail redirected for a month or so till you have sorted yourself out. Good Luck :o)
Throw/give away junk first and think carefully about what you really want to take. You will be amazed at how much needs to be shifted - think of your worst estimate and multiply by 10.

Make sure you label the boxes eg. Kitchen, Bedroom 1etc. as I'm sure you will be getting help and others won't know where everything goes.

I know thats two tips, but i was feeling generous.
Have everyone in the house pack a suitcase. Enough for a weekend. All the clothes and everything they would use to get ready for the day. Stuff for their shower, hair etc. These get packed in the car with you that way you have them and aren't searching for clothes and so on.

Also, pack a box of basic necessities. Toilet Paper, hand towels and soap for the bathroom. Paper towels, paper plates and plastic ware for the kitchen. Also pack the menu of your favorite delivery place so you don't have to cook. Pack up some stuff that you can easily prepare to eat during the move. You'll be too busy to cook. So making a cooler of food like lunch meats is a good idea. Bring along some bottled water, your favorite soft drinks and don't forget the BEER!
If you decide to hire a moving company check them out with the better business bearu www.bbb.org . If the move is out of state check them with the American Moving and Storage Association www.moving.org before you hire them. Do not accept an estimate over the phone, the cost will usually dramatically increase when they finally see what they are moving.
One key tip? ok, just one,....to beat the stress when one thing after another goes wrong,.. just smile to yourself, smile all the time, for as long as it takes, enjoy....:-)
Mark any box with a brief list of contents and the room it is to be placed in.
Keep the makings for a cup of tea/coffee seperate - you will need this first.
Don't!!

Get plenty of pain killers in for all the headaches you are going to get!
Make sure you do all your packing of things you don't really use all the time about 4 weeks before and gradually do a bit more each week til its all done, will save u aggro and time on packing
