Plumber hassles?
Why have all the plumbers (5) I've had quote on a couple of jobs been liars or rip-off merchants? I hate stereotypes but this time it seems true . Anyone else have similar troubles? And how do you get them to actually come and do the work?!
Answers:
You have my sympathy. In my work i have to liase with all the trades and i have to say that plumbers seem to be the most unreliable.I think it is because it is easier to be a plumber than a joiner or an electrician, and often qualified plumbers use unqualified workers and charge full rate.
I don't know what to suggest other than not to go for the cheapest or the most expensive and go by recomendations.
All the best!
I had the same problem with my air conditioning. To solve that problem I went to a tech. collage for two years, now I fix my own.
Go to the library take out books read them then if you think you are capable do the work yourself,if successfully think how much you have saved and how much better you feel for learning something new,PS,do not touch gas pipes as this is now illegal
No, not true.
Now you know that i hope you refrain from saying the stereotype is true.
Maybe its where you are getting thier details from ? The last place to get a plumbers details from is Yellow pages or the internet. REAL plumbers do not advertise, they are far too busy. You need to ask around for recommendations, or in builders merchants.
There are plenty of good plumbers around at reasonable prices.
Possibly its your deminer ? If you have such disrespect for them perhaps they sense it and think the job will be more trouble than its worth ?
check with your state contractors licensing board. they are supposed to regulate and inform. in CA you can do a name search online and it will tell you about their license and if there are any issues (i.e. suspended, revoked, complaints, etc) also tell you about their insurances.
Simple You either get a firm in to do the job or you do it yourself. You don't pick and mix. I note that you haven't said what the job actually is. We get so many people who go and buy, (taking the advice of some till presser) a boiler or what ever then expect a qualified engineer to fit the parts because you got your 20% discount.
Ever tried taking your own food to a restaurant to be cooked by the chief, or your oil and filter to a garage for them to fit.
Think about it and then you might answer your own question.
