My towel rail/radiator is hot at the bottom and cold at the top!?
I am not sure how to bleed these new style chrome, upright towel rail things - what should I do?
Answers:
It needs bleeding. The bleed nipple is usually on the back, top left.
It might have a plastic cap over it.
blead it,lets the air out of the system
You will have a vent plug on the top and the normal radiator key will fit
Call an emergency plumber in, he will be glad of the business and happy to relieve you of the cost of a new central heating system
It sounds like it has an airlock you must bleed the radiator, normal key should fit, look at the top for a square nut and turn it slowly to let air out untill water comes out, then tighten the nut up,job done,
Ignore Rainbow for the time being. Try bleeding the thing first. Make sure you have a towel handy for when the air stops coming out, because water will start dribbling and you may not tighten the screw up quickly enough to stop the water immediately. If there's air in the system, you'll hear it hissing out. Let it hiss until the water starts bubbling and tighten it back up again.
It's a good idea to bleed all your radiators as well, that way, bubbles of air won't travel through the pipes and gather in one place again. Then, if it's still not right, do what Rainbow said and call a plumber. Bleeding radiators is easy, and it's a waste of money (honestly) to call in an expensive plumber!
full of air bleed it
