What is the best way to get rid of saplings of trees that spring up in your lawn?
Answers:
The easiest way to remove them is to use a small hand shovel.
Push it in as far as it will go on each side of the plant. This severs the roots radiating out. Then either push the trowel in on an angle so that it severs the tap root or pull it up and clip with a pair of small prunign shears. If you cannot pull it up, just push the shears into the soil around the tree and snip, just make sure to clean the shears after use.
Just keep mowing them over, eventually they won't be able to recover.
Mow them before they get that tall.
Also take alook to see if they're runners from a nearby established tree. You may need to consider removing the adult tree to solve this permanently.
Cut them out, and Salt..salt.salt the you know what outta them. Use pickling salt, or just regular table salt. but do it often, it will kill the tap root eventually. just make sure you do it often. and after it rains.. and so on.
get rid of the main culprit (the mummy tree) first then get the lumber jack in to sort the kids out mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm hunky lumber jacks
what is the tree. I have the same problem in a lawn caused by Robinia psuedoacacia. Unfortunately this suckers even when you look at the ground. I just mow over mine and ignore the problem for a day or two.
pull them up
Pulling them is best. You can get a poison.
Keep Mowing over the tree seedlings just as you do your grass. They will eventually give up and die.
worst culprit is rhus or shumach the tree will have to go
