Will a weeping willow tree about 7 - 10 metres tall,1.5 meters from a garage and house cause future problems?

I've put in an offer on a house, then I read on the net that this type of tree is most likely to cause problems than other types.

This tree is in my prospective neighbour's garden. It is overhanging the garage of the house I want to buy quite a lot, which is attached to the house. So it is just around 3 metres from the house and I'm worried it might cause a problem in the future as it's so close.

I don't think the tree is fully grown yet, so I think it would get bigger. At the moment the house is not showing any signs of problems, apart from a paved area at the back that seems pretty uneven height wise but I'm worried that after a dry summer in a few years time, I might have a problem.

So not sure whether to pursue the house and pay for a survey, or look for another house.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Weeping willows have root systems that will grow until a water source is found. Water pipes, septic systems, sewer pipes--a lot of damage can be done if they aren't near a reliable water source such as a lake, stream or pond. The taller they grow, the longer and deeper the root system as well.

You could definitely have a problem in the coming years--one that could end up costing thousands of dollars in repairs
weeping willows are notorious for getting into pipes. they are supposed to be placed around ponds because they take a lot of water to survive. If they are not around a pond or lake, they will go for water and sewer pipes.
That tree is far from full grown. They aslo flourish in wet areas, so make sure that's not a problem first!

You have every right, once it is your property, to cut the tree, even roots on your property! I'd use Roundup too! Check to be sure, but that's how our laws go, that part of the tree is yours, but you may upset your new neighbors, though they may hate it too. Don't know unless you ask!
Another problem to concerned about is the fact that allowing any branches or leaves to touch the roof will in many instances welcome carpenter ants.
Hi, a willow could grow 24 metres and the safe distance from a house is 40 metres!! Sounds as if your neighbour could be liable for anydamage caused by the tree but you could still have problems with your insurance company.

If you already have a buildings insurer/ mortgage offer why not call them for some free advice on their take on this rather than pay out for a survey at this stage.
i had a weeping willow but cut it down as it was always getting blue bottles every summer
Find another house, this is a nightmare waiting to happen. Your instincts have warned you - listen to them and move on. Good luck.
