Is it against the law for my garage to be used as a meeting place for my teenager and friends?

The garage is my property and is within my garden boundaries. I have been told that it is against the law and can ony be used to put my car in!! Thanks you

Answers:
yes.....
Totally depends on where you are. Different laws/bylaws in different areas.
Check your local laws. It could be an association rule, also. You may have signed your rights away there.
Not that I know of, I used my garage loads when I was wee, it is never used to keep the car in- most people use the garage for other purposes.
If you are concerned try speaking to your local authority- you'll find the address and phone number in the bt phone book at the front bit
if it is against the law that is just stupid.. considering its your own property. As long as they arent doing anything wrong then it should be fine.
No, It is NOT against the law. NOT in the USA anyway. (NOT YET) It is your garage and as long as your not doing anything illegal there isn't a problem.
It is your property and can be used as a place for the teenagers to hang around as long as they are not disturbing the peace of the neighbours. I always loved having the teenagers at my house and not on the street corners.
depends really. if you have decked it out with amminities then it does become illegal. on the other hand if it is still used as a garage (i.e. you still store stuff in there) then there is no problem. basically i think your fine and whoever told you its against the law is just being a pain in the ****
It might depend on your state laws. If u are making excessive noise or if the garage is too crowded then there might be laws to keep u from using your garage as a meeting place. If it is crowded then there is a possible fire hazard and if u are making too much noise then you might be considered disturbing the peace.
I do not know of such a law. What of my lawn mower!

If your garage is being used as a club, with paid entry then you would need an entertainment licience otherwise I hope they have fun.

regards
I don't think so - why should it be? I wish more parents would think about their children like this - you see so many young people standing about on street corners - I think more poeplke should consider allowing their children to use a garage.

As long as it is safe, obviously!
No. Unless they are using it to do anything likre smoking/growing dugs, storing stolen goods. Then you will be in as much trouble with the law as they are.
I shouldnt think so. At least you know where they are!!!!!
Yes it is against the law if it is used as a place for meetings . all states have laws pertaining to places of meetings that address such things as square footage required per person , fire protection, required exits, and combustible building material ,etc .Check with your local code enforcement officer
if its your property you can do with it anything you want except change the structure without planning permission .
There are some neighborhood associations that fine people for having a clothesline! You'd have to check local ordinances, but I can't imagine the police driving around looking to make sure that everyone is putting their car in their garage!
do you live in the uk? if so then contact your local council, their details can be found on the directgov website and they should be able to tell you what the legal position is.
no
