How do you paint skirting boards without getting paint on the carpet?
I want to paint the skirting boards, without taking up the carpet, but I also want to paint past the pile of the carpet . Is this possible?
Answers:
You go down to Homebase/B&Q or wherever, and buy a skirting board painting device helper!
Basically its a curved plastic thingy, that you slot in between the carpet and the skirting board. You slide it along as you finish each section.
Much more effective than masking tape and it only costs a couple of quid.
Good Luck!
put masking tape all round the carpet on the edges..works well cos im a messy painter and when ive finished, i dont end up with a carpet the same colouor as my walls!
use a strong masking tape and dust sheets to protect the carpets ..and paint carefully
Just lift it up at the edges?
If you can, take off the skirting, paint it, and re-fix it. Ive always tried masking tape, but it always manages to seep past.
Masking tape would be your best bet.
agree with SLY duct (duck) tape and cloth and or cheap shower curtain from dollar store just encase
Duct tape isnt that wide so extra protection
Put down newspaper on the ground, I hope that does the trick!
Place a strip of masking tape on the carpet, tucked right up to the base. Paint carefully with a good quality brush. (Your eyes should track the paint stroke by watching the trailing bristle on a brush, which should be held at a slight angle) If the carpet is thick, use a painter’s shield, or a wide drywall taping knife to depress the carpet in the area you are paining.
Place masking tape or broad sellotape on carpet edges before you begin, and remove carefully when finished, one edge at a time.
get some one else to paint it, then they;ve painted the carpet not you!
One way is to take the carpet up the other is to get a roll of 2" masking tape and tape the edges of the carpet all around
You can get a piece of cardboard and slide it along the bottom of the board. It works pretty well.
Get a painter/decorator to do it, then if he gets it on the carpets, Sue him for the damages. Then buy a newer carpet with the compensation money.
Get a piece of 3mm mdf (maybe 6" X 18" ) use that as a shield. ( go to homebase, they have a boardcutting service and lots of offcuts .smile and they are free) Wipe the board each time you use it, use a water based gloss paint. then if you have an accident..
