Sonic mole deterants will generate a randomly emitted vibration in the soil of your garden. There is no way the voles / moles will cope with this stressing sound and before long the rodents will leave the vicinity.
They screw into the ground and dependant on the size and capacity the working radius might be as much as 20 m (1200 sq.m) depending on the properties of the soil.
There are many forms available.
Whilst we don't have moles in Ireland, I have found that most small creatures (rats, mice etc) hate the smell of ferrets and other mustelids. I use the old bedding and soiled sawdust from a ferret cage to keep rodents and other pests out of the composters. Why not give it a try?
You can't. To rid yourself of moles in your lawn, you'll need to hire the local mole catcher. He will kill the moles. Problem solved.
