What can i use in my garden to scare the birds away?
we have a cat and although he doesnt catch birds they do drive him nuts! so any suggestions please on keeping them out the garden completely? we do not feed them either in case you are wondering!!
Answers:
Nothing works for more than a day or two.
Get a BB gun and leave any dead birds you kill on the ground. That might scare them off.
At most hardware stores they have inflatable snakes. These work pretty well.
a gun usually scares birds away.
CD's on string work really well and readily available from the AOL boxes on a checkout
We have a replica of a hawk on our windowsill and that works pretty well.
My nan bless her, used to use strips of tin foil,or you could use old cd's
You should get some toy snakes and strategically place them in different spots in the garden. It will keep the birds away and provide a few laughs if anyone should think they are real.
but an owl this should do the trick. place it where they can see it
scarecrow
Old CDs work wonders! Hang them on string around the garden and although the cat may jump to play with them, the light that reflects from the CDs frightens the birds away!
Owls are naturally enemies of small birds. Use an owl decoy. They stand about 15" tall. But get one with a swivel head so there is some motion in the breeze. And relocate the owl frequently so the birds don't think it's a fixture. Good luck!

after that they will never return to your garden
2 suggestions :
Attach CD in your trees/bushes and as they move with the wind they'll scare birds away.
Another trick is to put a statue of a predator in you garden (such as a howl for example) but you need to move it from its place on a regular basis or birds will get use to it.
Try hanging aluminium plates to some tree branches, you know the cheap throw away ones they sell now to use for picnics. I saw that done once in a town where the birds were making a mess on the sidewalk of a busy corner. Reflective wind chimes might help as well. Good luck.
Try putting a life like model/statue of a bird of prey in your garden like a peregrine falcon, owl or something indigenous to your area that feeds on the wild birds.
Alternatively;
Get a harder cat, what a wimp!
Mine brings in 2 sometimes 3 a day, perfect supply line for when I'm tying fishing flies.
get a big false heron or some thing and stick it in the middle of the garden, owls work well some times soon
cds hanging on string. the sun reflects off them scaring the birds.or u could put a cat in the garden!
loud death metal through a professional pa system works
Firstly DO NOT use a BB gun since that would be a criminal offence -- a.k.a. !!ILLEGAL!!
The only thing I can suggest is getting a net thing (like the sort of net you'd put over a garden pond) that would stop the birds getting into the garden in the first place.
Although this may look stupid it actually works!
Alternatively you could buy some 'fake cat' things which can be stuck in the grass and would stay there.
Good luck :-)
Get a larger cat. Maybe a lion
We use a fake plastic owl that we hang up in the air from the covered area of the patio. It Really works!
you say you don't feed the birds .try not feeding the cat he might then catch some birds then
